Would it be possible to have a custom kernel feature? While I understand that for obvious security reasons, we can't compile our own kernels (I have compiled all the rest of my linode's OS from source), it seems that there could be a way to control the kernel config, or at least the optional parts of it. Something along the lines of a web form with the allowable kernel config options and "yes" or "no" radio buttons controlling whether or not specific option get compiled into a custom kernel for the user's linode. I assume that not having the features I don't use or need included into a monolithic kernel would save some ram on my linode, no?
Just a thought. |

This has been discussed before, and to be honest, it's pretty far down on my list of priorities. I don't have any hard numbers for you, but my guess is that the amount of RAM saved on a stripped down kernel would be very, very small...
