ThePlanet is aware of the problem and is working on it.

As ever, impressively fast response. Thanks.
Switch blown up? Weird because I can get to my console but not my Linode. |

I'm guessing host3 in at ThePlanet. Actually, I'm pretty sure it is. Oh well, I guess I can live without email for a while. I'll fire up IRC and wait for updates there.
I hope they fix it soon. Thanks for the info though.

Would this be the issue? I'm in Europe this week and so can't reach our sysadmin to ask him to check into this.
If this is not the issue, please contact me. |

If it's not clear, the site is www.cryptography.com and I am pretty sure it's on li-22 although I'm not the sysadmin so I don't know for sure.
Thanks. |

Just looking for an update. Its been a little over 3 hours, and it's hard to explain this situation to customers when i have nothing to work with. Any news at all?

Thanks.
When I traceroute to that IP it dies at the same place as traceroutes to my own linode. I think you're down because of ThePlanet too. |

Apparently not, but if I had to guess I'd say BGP got borked somehow.

| This was the longest outage in the past few years (5 hours). I'd like more info about what happened to ThePlanet. What measures are now in place to prevent this from happening again? |

Apparently, this was a BGP config problem on ThePlanet's end of things, and it only affected the 64.5.x.x range. Once they corrected the problem it took a while for the new BGP routing info to propagate.
ThePlanet takes network problems very seriously and I'm sure they've implemented checks to prevent this from happening again.
Thanks,
