Host3 had an issue where syslogd wouldn't accept any input, thereby blocking any process trying to feed it. This caused crond to assume a backlog of 100s of processes, which led to massive thrashing.
The machine has been rebooted, and Linodes are coming online now.
We'll be investigating a better syslog deamon.
Thanks,

New information: /dev/hda is failing on host3. I'm attempting one last sync to hdc before removing hda from the RAID. Unfortunately, this requires another reboot.
Linodes are coming online now.
