Host48's primary drive failed completely, to the point that it prevented the box from initializing the ATA bus preventing it from booting. I've had TP techs remove the drive from this machine, so we're back in business.

Let me get a few things squared away and I'll announce whether I'm going to migrate everyone off this machine, or take it down and install a new hard drive.

Linodes are restarting now.

What brand of drives do/did you use? You seem to have the worst luck with them, and I'd like to avoid them.

Thanks for the quick work, although I'd like to get off this box ASAP because no raid makes me nervous.

We've used Maxtors since we've started, however I've switched to WD Caviar Enterprise RAID drives in new machines (1.2 million hours MTBF). Also, any drive replacements will be this make.

That's what I'm leaning towards. I'm going to rsync everyone's filesystems onto a new box once the machine settles down.

We lost a bunch of data after this mornings crash. Our 4:00 AM backup was transfered off to another machine, but when host48 came back up, the backup data was from August 12, not August 13.

Everything between 4:00 AM and the reboot this morning appears to have been lost. I would not have expected that if this was just a crash.

My server's filesystem is coming up readonly (even with a "mount -o remount,rw /"). We are on host48, is this related? Also, just checking on the current situation with this host in general.

Thanks

I noticed that host48 is back up, as well as my linode. However, my reboot and shutdown requests don't seem to be going through. They've been in the queue for the last 20 min. Should I just be patient, or is something wrong with the machine?
