trouble installing ghc 6.6: xargs: /usr/bin/ar: terminated by signal 11.

I'm having trouble installing the bleeding edge ghc 6.6 (glasgow haskell compiler) from source, as something keeps killing make. I was able to install ghc 6.4 using apt-get without any problems.

Members of the haskell cafe forum said signal 11 was a bad sign, maybe of hardware trouble.

But user mode linux has its quirks, so I'm shouting out to the forum before I post an "official" support request.

People at the haskell cafe suggested I run memtest86 and friends. This involves installing a boot partition and mucking about with lilo, which sounds daunting to me as I don't have experience with it.

So before going that route, anybody have other ideas how I should troubleshoot this, perhaps peculiar to the virtual linux environment?

Which host server are you on, and have you tried Latest 2.6 in your config profile?
