Hi

I'm in the process of transferring my site to linode from another shared VM.

At my previous provider, they provided an SMTP relay for sending mail from the website.

I don't see any such service at linode ... do I need to find a relay elsewhere? What have people here done for this?

I just need to send out probably up to 100 mails a day with an occasional mailout of a few 1000. Hopefully this will grow over time, I don't want to pay too much for it :-) just looking for a simple solution.

Daniel

In Ubuntu or Debian, simply install the Postfix package and select "Internet Site" as the type of installation. This will give you a fully functioning SMTP server.

You can install any number of SMTP servers on any distro, so you may want to start reading up them. The most popular ones are probably Postfix, Exim, and Sendmail.

thanks! I already used postfix a few times just as a local MTA forwarding to my ISP, so hopefully setting it up like this will be ok.
