|

During the afternoon (EST) of Tuesday, December 30th, 2003, the web server that runs Linode.com will be taken offline for a few short intervals, while new hard drives and additional RAM are being installed.
Obviously, during these intervals, the Linode.com website will be unavailable, along with reboots via Lish. I'll try to keep the downtime to a minimum, but it will go down aprox. three times, possibly for 10-20 minutes at a time.
This only affects the Linode.com website. All the host servers and your Linodes will continue to operate with no interruption.
This thread will be updated when the upgrades are complete.
Thank you!

The server that serves the linode.com website. As in the server you're reading this page on right now, and the server that serves the member's area. That's it.

To be clear (and please correct me if I'm wrong) all hosts will be affected, at least regarding reboots.
Reboot from SSH does a shutdown, not a reboot. In order to do a reboot, you need the Linode control panel. As long as you don't attempt a reboot or shutdown during the downtime, you should be fine. A minor point, but one that could bite someone if they're not careful. |

"reboot" from inside your Linode does a halt/shutdown and there won't be a way to boot it back up until the db/webserver comes back online.
I'd anticipate downtime to be very short, probably two short reboots, and potentially one longer (10-20 minutes) while only the data that changed from the previous reboot is synced to the new drive. So, even if you do find yourself in that situation it will only be a few minutes that the site is unavailable.
Issuing a shutdown, boot, or reboot via Lish will have no effect while the db/webserver is down, since it inserts jobs into the queue just as the LPM (control panel) does.
Hope that clears it up :)
