Datacenter Operations Specialist

Philadelphia, PA

Linode’s datacenter operations team is responsible for the planning, installation, repairs and upgrades, configuration, and maintenance of Linode’s hardware. Additional responsibilities include maintaining correspondence with datacenter technicians, keeping up with equipment availability levels based on demand, shipping and receiving, deploying new equipment, and retiring depreciated equipment as necessary. The datacenter operations team also plays a crucial role in hardware infrastructure management such as server rack planning, equipment tracking and documentation, software and firmware upgrades, forecasting, etc.

Linode is now seeking an enthusiastic Datacenter Operations Specialist. This person will have a genuine passion for all things hardware and will be well versed in a server environment. The ideal candidate will have NOC experience and will have both hands-on and remote experience maintaining a server environment. This individual will have working knowledge of Linux and computer networking experience.

 Primary Job Functions

  • Continuously monitor and maintain nine worldwide datacenters, networks, and servers
  • Deploy and repair servers, storage systems, routers and switches, and other hardware
  • Interact with datacenter NOCs via telephone, email, web portal, etc.
  • Infrastructure planning in a globally-reaching datacenter environment
  • Respond to demand by shipping and receiving of servers, networking equipment, remote power consoles, etc. to maintain availability and reliability of Linode’s network
  • Ensure peak performance by installing and maintaining firmware and software

Minimum Qualifications:

Director of Cloud / IaaS Sales

Linode is seeking a talented director of sales to drive the design, implementation, and measurement of global sales programs for Linode’s suite of cloud hosting products. Whether it’s defining target markets and sales goals, managing the resources necessary to achieve annual sales targets, or establishing new customer relationships, the director of sales will ensure these programs are well established and properly leveraged by Linode’s sales team in our targeted markets.

To be successful, the director of sales will become a trusted advisor to Linode’s leadership team, sales team, and our prospective customers. Sales director duties will include defining target markets and sales goals, managing the resources necessary to achieve annual sales targets, establishing new customer relationships, and understanding market and customer trends.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, drive, and measure Linode’s sales programs
  • Define and develop key growth strategies, tactics, and action plans

Director of Information Security

We’re seeking a Director of Information Security to build and lead a top notch security team. You will lead a team of security engineers who perform security audits, risk analysis, vulnerability and network testing, and perform research to build the type of secure environment our customers have come to expect. You’ll need to continuously be on the edge of your seat, making snap decisions and always thinking about what’s next; you’ll be a security visionary who can implement change at the blink of an eye. You will establish and enforce the policies and standards to run a security organization that is highly motivated and endlessly driven, and won’t settle for anything less than total success.

This role requires high level strategizing all the way down to daily implementation and maintenance, and would regularly collaborate with Linode’s executive team. You are a strategic thinker with a background in information security concepts who also has a good mix of technical knowledge and isn’t afraid to get your hands dirty alongside your team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and continue to build a team of top security engineers
  • Collaborate with Linode’s leadership team, prioritizing tasks as necessary

JavaScript / Front-End Engineer

Linode is seeking skilled JavaScript engineers with a strong interest and capability in the implementation and architecture of front end browser applications. The ideal candidate loves JavaScript and utilizes functional programming concepts in their work. A good understanding of HTML5 and CSS3 is also highly valued for this position.

You will regularly collaborate with Linode’s development team in the typical agile/scrum environment. This role requires high level of independent work, but also a strong need for team collaboration. This role is a regular 40 hour per week position located in Philadelphia, PA. Relocation assistance is available.

Must have requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in software development
  • Strong experience with JavaScript (object oriented, functional, expert knowledge of browser/APIs, etc.)

Linux Network Engineer

We are currently seeking a Linux Network Engineer who will collaborate with the team on the engineering, design, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrades of the Linode network, helping us architect and scale for our future growth. You will become a key member of our networking team, responsible for keeping Linode's network as reliable and secure as possible.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform basic engineering, design, implementation and maintenance tasks.
  • Design and build data connectivity solutions to support Linode's growth worldwide.

Linux Systems Engineer

Managing a cloud hosting service for 400K customers requires creative solutioning and cutting edge technological innovation.  As we continue to grow rapidly, we’re looking for passionate, highly skilled Systems Engineers to drive automation & operational excellence, and support product development for our customer fleet.  This will require out of the box thinking combined with deep domain expertise on Linux, DevOps, and System Administration to be successful.

You will be a natural problem solver. Someone who lives to put out fires before they start and continuously monitors all things Linode to make sure there is never a hiccup in the service that our customers come to love and expect. 

Linode Systems Engineers are responsible for working on a number of critical internal and customer facing initiatives.  This includes everything from the creation of distributed file systems like Ceph, Gluster, and Cinder to Salting all the infrastructure and ELKing all the logs.

Our support team is the front-line of Linode’s cloud hosting platform, and is completely dedicated to providing the best support in our industry. Simply possessing the knowledge to do the job isn’t enough; one needs to have excellent written and oral communication skills as well as an equally strong passion for customer service. In this position, you will regularly collaborate with your support colleagues, as well as members of the development, operations, and networking teams. An ideal candidate is someone who can easily switch between independent and collaborative work throughout the day.  This role is a regular 40 hour per week position located in our Philadelphia, PA office. Linode provides 24/7/365 support to our customers, which means candidates should be open to non-traditional shifts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver solutions for our customers via support tickets, email, IRC, and phone
  • Troubleshoot issues related to our Linux cloud hosting platform, product or service inquiries, billing, etc, and provide the best possible update to our customers every single time
  • Identify and escalate recurring issues to system and network engineers, developers or other appropriate parties
  • Handle abuse complaints including Terms of Service infringements, subpoenas, and malicious activity
  • Become familiar with all Linode products and systems
  • Come to work dedicated to making yourself and Linode better than the day before

Requirements

  • Must be within commuting distance to Philadelphia, PA (or able to relocate)
  • Comfortable with navigating the Linux command line
  • Familiarity with common Linux server applications such as Apache2, Nginx, Postfix, MySQL, BIND, etc.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot TCP/IP issues, other networking issues (packet loss, connections timing out / refused)
  • Ability to troubleshoot firewall issues, identifying problematic / misconfigured iptables rules
  • Ability to troubleshoot DNS issues (using dig, etc.)

  • 1-2+ years customer support experience (in a technical field preferably)

Linode’s software engineering team is seeking an experienced manager who has the right balance of technical knowhow and aptitude for managing and leading by example. In this role, you will be responsible for working with a diverse team of developers, project management, and company leadership to deliver on the product roadmap across multiple sectors of the company.

Linode’s software engineers are a highly skilled set of individuals who work in an agile environment are directly responsible for all facets of the company's products: new product rollout, maintaining existing systems, and responding to mission-critical events. In this role, you’ll be expected to collaborate regularly with Linode’s executive team and other department heads. Minimum Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience managing an engineering and/or development team responsible for customer-facing web applications
  • 6 years of relevant technical work experience, web development experience highly preferred with progressively increasing responsibility
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field preferred
  • Strong understanding of Linux, virtualization, and networking concepts

Security Engineer

Linode’s team of Security Engineers play a critical part in maintaining the most reliable, scalable, and secure infrastructure in the industry.

Primary Job Functions

  • Identify security issues and risks, and develop mitigation plans that work at scale
  • Implement automation of vulnerability scanning and detection
  • Architect, design, implement, support, and evaluate all security-focused tools and services
  • Build and deploy automation for monitoring our infrastructure, application, and network
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of security policies and best practices

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of system, network, and/or application security experience
  • Strong understanding of Linux, virtualization, and networking concepts
  • Experience with penetration testing and vulnerability scanning tools
  • Experience with TCP/IP, packet analysis, and iptables
  • Strong communication skills to work with both collaborative cross-functional team of peers and departments within the company (product development, operations, networking, etc.) 
  • Experience in automation of tasks through scripting or programming with Bash, Python, Perl, etc.

Senior Database Administrator (MySQL)

Linode is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to execute on database strategies and take responsibility for database integrity, architecture, modeling, security, and performance tuning for our MySQL databases. This person will play a key role in managing and improving the health and stability of our MySQL instances. This person will will display proficiencies in MySQL administration as well as basic Linux administration in a 24x7 production environment.

You will report directly to Linode’s Chief Operations Officer and would regularly collaborate with Linode’s executive team as well as our team of system engineers. This role requires high level strategizing all the way down to daily implementation and maintenance. This role may include some non-traditional hours when necessary, including a rotating on-call schedule.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Basic Database administration - install, configure, upgrade, and migrate existing databases
  • Serve as an escalation point for any defined database issues regarding performance, security, and ongoing maintenance
  • Automate various DBA tasks
  • Optimization of database performance
  • Devise and implement key constraints to ensure database integrity
  • Work with Linode’s developers and system engineers to troubleshoot and optimize queries and performance bottlenecks for current and future products and services
  • Assist in formalizing and updating database policies, procedures, and technical standards, including disaster recovery planning

Minimum Requirements:

  • MySQL DBA experience in a 24x7 production environment
  • 3-6 years of database management/administration and performance tuning experience
  • Strong proficiency with Linux with experience performing basic administrative tasks
  • Experience implementing multi-master replication (Galera experience is a plus)
  • Experience with version control; specifically Git and GitHub
  • Mastery of one or more of: Python, Ruby, Bash, or other scripting language

Senior Hardware Engineer

We are currently seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to drive the continual improvement of Linode’s hardware infrastructure. You will focus on certifying powerful new hardware to make our servers faster and more efficient. You will develop, document, and automate benchmark tests. You will create burn-in testing procedures to make our fleet more reliable. You will be a key contributor to the Linode Datacenter Operations Team in ensuring our hardware is not only running optimally but that our equipment is the fastest on the market. You will also maintain the roadmap for future Linode hardware.

This position will report to Linode’s Datacenter Operations Manager. The position is 40 hours per week and is headquartered in Linode's Philadelphia, PA office but may require travel among Haddonfield, NJ, and Galloway, NJ offices. Occasional travel to our 8 worldwide datacenters and our hardware manufacturers and vendors will also be required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Create, perform, and automate benchmarking, compatibility, and burn-in test procedures
  • Compile and interpret test results
  • Make configuration recommendations for new hardware builds
  • Keep abreast of future component releases and trends to continue to develop the Linode hardware roadmap
  • Maintain internal documentation

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in a similar role
  • BA/BS in computer science or equivalent field preferred

Staff Accountant

Summary

Linode is seeking a staff accountant to join our finance team in a unique opportunity to be a part of a high-growth tech company in Philadelphia. Your objective will be to provide support to Linode’s finance department by managing daily accounting tasks and contributing to the overall operation of the department.  

You will be responsible for preparing financial statements and reporting, posting and processing journal entries, update accounts payable/receivable, and perform reconciliations. This is a growth level role that requires a baseline proficiency in accounting principals, with the expectation of a large exposure of varying tasks and competing priorities. You will focus on Linode’s complete procurement cycle along with a multitude of accounting activities including recording daily transactions, monthly bank and credit card reconciliations, accruals, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

You will be quick to grasp new concepts, both within accounting and within the technology field. You will have exceptional organization, prioritization, and communications skills. Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain and improve upon the daily operations within the Finance department and ability to adapt to change and work in a high growth environment is a must. In addition, you will thrive in a high-energy environment where you must solve problems  and perform work that is routinely done with minimal direct supervision.

This position will report to Linode’s Accounting Manager. Position is 40 hours per week located in Haddonfield NJ, with a transition to Philadelphia in early 2017.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded correctly
  • Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations
  • Perform monthly bank, AMEX, and long term debt reconciliations
  • Update fixed asset purchases and depreciation monthly
  • Create monthly invoices for customers
  • Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
  • Assist accounting manager in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings

  • Collaborate with development teams to define and implement solutions for product direction, visuals, and experience
  • Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off to development
