Google Page Insight Moaning About Server Response

My website www.displaycentre.co.uk is hosted on linode. I have minimal server knowledge and tended to leave this to my web developer who is no longer available.

I know that my website is quite slow to load (10 seconds for a page) and am working with another developer on this. But he is not a server expert and has made the point that Google Page Insight is reporting that the server response time is slow.

I have spoken to Linode TS who cannot help with such questions. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction.

Infact is there anyone out there who provides server tech support as a service?

Greetings @thedisplaycentre,

I'd be happy to point you in the right direction. If the issue is on our end you can double check with the iostat command. Run then following to make sure you are not running into any contention issues with neighboring Linodes.

$ iostat 1 10

Then check the %steal column. If it is >7-10% you can open a ticket and we'll migrate to another host.

However, looking at the Google's PageSpeed Insights, I would say you can make some configuration changes to speed that up. One recommendation would be to increase the life of your cache for static assets - like images. Here is some information on making changes within your web server configuration.

We do also have a Professional Services Department that would be able to take a look, if interested. But from your message it sounds like you are looking for support on a continual basis. There are a range of Managed Service Providers or other hosting companies that offer this type of service.

I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to let us know.
