How do I get my SSH access back?

Linode Staff

I've lost access to SSH. Root login and password authentication are disabled, and I don't have access to the original private key. How do I get back into my Linode?

Even when you've lost access to SSH, you can still access your Linode via our out-of-band Lish Console. Disabling root access and password login over SSH doesn't disable them for local login, so you should still be able to get in through Lish, as long as you know your password. If you've forgotten your root password, you can reset it by following the instructions in our guide. Just be aware that resetting the password this way requires downtime, as your Linode needs to be powered off during the process.

Once you've regained access, you can follow the instructions in our guide on setting up public key authentication to generate a new keypair.

I've solved it and now cannot delete this comment… sorry
