My files are missing

Linode Staff

After connecting to my Linode via SSH, I found that all of my files are missing. My dashboard still shows 100% used. What happened to my files?

The storage allocation percentage on your Linode's dashboard shows how much of your plan's storage you currently have allocated to your disks. While that total shows that you have allocated 100% of your available storage, it does not correlate with what is actually stored on your disks.

Do you happen to have any backups of your data available? If your files are missing, that will likely be the best way to recover anything that is lost.

You can try running the following command from your root directory to see where all of your files are stored. It is possible they might have gotten moved.

sudo du -h -d 1 /
