Linode compie oggi 17 anni! I miei più sinceri ringraziamenti a tutto il team Linode, che lavora duramente per supportare gli altri e voi, i nostri clienti. Come abbiamo fatto negli anni passati, vogliamo festeggiare con alcuni aggiornamenti...
Gli aggiornamenti di quest'anno si basano sui suggerimenti dei clienti e dei membri della community e includono miglioramenti dei tempi di rendering DNS, istanze Dedicated CPU più grandi, piani High Memory dedicati e disponibilità di Kubernetes gestito in tutte le regioni*.
DNS Manager - Miglioramenti dei tempi di rendering
Quando aggiungete o modificate zone o record DNS, le vostre modifiche si rifletteranno sui nostri nameserver autorevoli in meno di 60 secondi. Si tratta di una riduzione rispetto al precedente approccio "ogni quarto d'ora" che abbiamo avuto per molto tempo. Questo dovrebbe rendere la vita molto più facile a coloro che necessitano di modifiche più rapide e riflesse nel mondo, come nel caso delle implementazioni di Terraform e di altri scenari.
Il servizio di Linode DNS Manager Il servizio è incluso gratuitamente ed è servito da oltre 100 POP in tutto il mondo.
Nuove istanze Dedicated CPU più grandi
L'anno scorso abbiamo raddoppiato lo storage delle istanze Dedicated CPU e stiamo continuando a espandere questa classe di istanze con tre nuovi piani di memoria: Dedicato 128GB, Dedicato 256GB e Dedicato 512GB. Per maggiori informazioni, consultate la gamma di piani.
Le istanze dedicate sono ottimizzate per i carichi di lavoro che richiedono prestazioni costanti o che richiedono un lavoro full-duty (100% CPU tutto il giorno, tutti i giorni). Ciò include build box, CI/CD, codifica video, machine learning, server di gioco, database, data mining e server di applicazioni impegnate. Iniziate con un Dedicated CPU.
High Memory piani aggiornati a Core Dedicati
I nostri pianiHigh Memory , che in precedenza venivano eseguiti su CPU condivise, ora vengono eseguiti su core CPU dedicati al 100%. Ciò significa migliori prestazioni e migliore utilizzo delle risorse per supportare database ad alte prestazioni, cache in-memory ed elaborazione di big data in tempo reale. L'aggiornamento rimane allo stesso prezzo.
Se siete già utenti di un piano ad alta memoria, avrete la possibilità di passare ai core dedicati. Iniziate con una High Memory istanze.
Il motore Kubernetes di Linode raggiunge la disponibilità globale
Linode Kubernetes Engine (LKE) è stato recentemente rilasciato come un modo semplice e facile per costruire la propria infrastruttura utilizzando Kubernetes gestito. Nelle ultime settimane, abbiamo ampliato la portata di LKE per servire tutti i nostri mercati globali*.
Se si sta esplorando Kubernetes come parte delle proprie implementazioni, LKE si inserisce nell'infrastruttura Linode esistente e può essere distribuito tramite Cloud Manager, API o CLI. Inoltre, viene fornito con un piano di controllo Kubernetes gratuito, che include API, scheduler, etcd e controllori di risorse. Create subito un cluster.
* Si prega di notare che LKE non è attualmente disponibile nel nostro centro dati di Atlanta, in attesa di un aggiornamento pianificato di tale struttura.
Cosa succederà in futuro
- Ulteriori implementazioni Object Storage (la prossima è Singapore) e funzionalità (ACL a grana fine, supporto Let's Encrypt / bring your own SSL cert)
- Ulteriori perfezionamenti dell'interfaccia utente/UX di Cloud Manager (roba buona)
- Miglioramenti a NodeBalancer (protocollo PROXY, certificazioni Let's Encrypt)
- Aggiornamenti ad Atlanta
- VLAN private beta
- Linodi Bare Metal beta
- Database gestiti (MySQL per cominciare) beta
- I miglioramenti della stabilità e delle prestazioni della rete e della flotta sono stati per noi la priorità assoluta da gennaio. Circa il 25% della nostra flotta ha ricevuto questi aggiornamenti, mentre i restanti verranno presto implementati.
Apprezziamo ogni giorno voi e la vostra attività e non vediamo l'ora di servirvi in questo 18° anno. Grazie.

I’m looking forward to the Bare Metal beta. Hopefully, you can upload your own raw disk images or have them downloaded for you, and perhaps, support for UEFI rather than Bios booting only. Depending on the pricing, I may get one to see how it goes!

Nice! Looking forward to managed databases, though looks like I’ll have to wait a bit longer, slight bummer — hopefully PostgreSQL is planned.
Have no fear, Managed Databases are still planned for this year. As this article mentions, we’ll be starting with MySQL, though Postgres is also on our agenda. There’s been a lot of work going into this, which we’ll be sure to announce here on the blog when there’s more to share.
Really eager to be able to have a managed Postgres option from Linode, can’t wait for that to be available.

AWS does exactly the same. The Sao Paulo datacenter costs more than US ones.
Also, they still charge us in USD (which is terrible, but anyways, we can live with it). We just need a local datacenter for better latency.
A data center in Brazil is the fifth most popular order in a major Linode competitor. Arrive early, we will be happy to welcome you! 🙂
Any chance of a managed VPN service, either for users or site-to-site? We currently run openvpn on each of our systems to let us access management ports or let the systems access our on-premise puppetserver, but it would be nice to not have to deal with that.

One question concerning DNS render time improvements, though. Does that include slave zones?
For new slave zones, yes, they’ll see the same speeds as the new master zones.
The render time for external zones won’t change, but they’ve always been pretty quick to update.

Few things I would like to see on Linode in coming days:
1. Linode’s own CDN, since Linode has servers everywhere.
2. Cloud firewall and Private VLANs.
3. I want to see more in Mumbai datacenter.
Great suggestions! The Cloud Firewall and VLANs are happening, and we’ll post the details here on the blog as they become available.
I brought up your request for the CDN to the team, and they let me know that this is also something that’s on our roadmap, although there’s not an ETA on it yet as we’re in the beginning stages of looking into it.
We now have Kubernetes available in Mumbai. Anything in particular you’re interested in seeing added there?
Can’t wait to finally have a private network between data centers, and a real private network (not shared) within the same centre.
Another year and Linode will be able to vote! God help us : )
