Managed Databases Now Available for PostgreSQL and MySQL

We’ve added PostgreSQL to our managed database service! Launched in May with support for MySQL, Linode Managed Databases gives developers access to popular databases in a managed service that shifts some of the responsibility for maintenance and monitoring to us. This month, we’re also sharing a new ebook to help you develop an understanding of industry-standard databases, the design of database architectures, and different deployment methods in the cloud.
Featured Guides
Criminals and hackers frequently use a technique named SQL Injection (SQLi) to gain unauthorized entry to a remote database. This guide describes a Structured Query Language (SQL) injection attack, explains how it is used, how to detect SQL vulnerabilities, and how to defend against them.
In computer science, a data structure is a format that organizes, manages, and stores data. For a data structure to be practical, it must be relevant to the task and easy to use. Programmers should be able to quickly and efficiently store and retrieve data using the structure. This guide introduces and defines data structures and explains why they are important, highlighting the most important data structures and clarifying when and how each one can be used.
Updates
Managed Databases for PostgreSQL and MySQL are supported in all Linode data centers. We quickly enhanced our managed database service to better support the developer community with popular databases at the scale required from individuals to enterprise applications. Read more in the release blog post or view the documentation to deploy your database cluster.
Develop a high-level understanding of industry-standard databases, the design of database architectures, and different deployment methods in the cloud. After you’ve learned the basics, Justin Mitchel of Coding for Entrepreneurs will walk you through a practical application illustrating how to use Django, Docker, and Linode Managed Databases together. Download the preview now and register for the full release in July.
Open Source
We’re excited to be hosting a Linux Writing Contest with HackerNoon! Here’s your chance to win money from a whopping $9,000 monthly prize pool. It could be any story on Linux – an opinion piece, an expert interview, or a tutorial – anything related to Linux. Just submit your article to HackerNoon with the #linux tag, and you’ll be qualified as a participant in the contest through August 30.
nixCraft explains how to find a path of a Linux command by using the which, whereis, whatis, type, and other Bash/Terminal utilities.
