Finnix是一个独立的、可启动的Linux CD发行版（"LiveCD"），供系统管理员使用，基于Debian 测试。你可以装载和操作硬盘和分区，监控网络，重建启动记录，安装其他操作系统，等等。Finnix包含了系统管理员的最新技术，包括Linux内核2.6、LVM2、加密分区等。最重要的是，Finnix很小；目前整个发行版超过300MB，但被动态压缩成100MB以下的可启动镜像。Finnix不是为普通的桌面用户准备的，不包括任何桌面、生产力工具或声音支持，以保持发行量的低。
如何在我们的环境中利用Finnix
- 创建一个空的配置文件（配置子标签，点击 "创建一个新的配置文件"）。
- 为内核选择 "恢复--Finnix（内核）"。
- 为/dev/ubda选择 "恢复 - Finnix (iso)"。
- 为initrd选择 "Recovery - Finnix (initrd)"（就在磁盘镜像下面）。
- 将你需要从Finnix内部修复/挂载的磁盘镜像添加到剩余的/dev/ubd插槽。
- 启动新的配置文件
- 使用Lish控制台来访问你的Finnix安装设备
关于菲尼克斯的简短历史
Finnix是由我们自己的Linode.com社区成员 "fo0bar"（Ryan Finnie）创建的。
Finnix诞生于1999年。当时，很少有LiveCD发行版存在；LiveCD这个词甚至还没有被创造出来。Linuxcare已经发布了它的 "可启动工具箱"，这是一套装在50MB商业卡光盘中的实用程序。然而，没有多少人能够得到它，因为它主要是在贸易展览中发放的，而且直到后来才可以下载。当我在一家ISP工作时，有机会接触到几台测试机和CD刻录机（那时CD刻录机还不多），我把Red Hat 6.0安装好，并把它修改成可以直接从CD上运行。0.01版本只分发给另外两个人。0.02版有一些小的修改，主要由办公室的工作人员使用。Finnix 0.03被更新以反映Red Hat 6.1，在2000年2月，它被发布到全世界。

The Linode forums contain a wealth of handy information, both about Linux in general and about running a Linode. One caveat when looking through them: keep an eye on the date of a post before replying. Sometimes ancient threads get resuscitated, and they start showing up at the top of the recent activity list. That’s when dogs start living with cats and confusion reigns.
