Linode DNS setup in namecheap domain

Hi. I’ll like to know if I can use a custom DNS like ns1.mydomainname.com in my domain or does it always have to be ns1.linode.com. If yes, does it still have to be ns1.mydomainname.com to ns5? I’m currently working on a pentesting tool at school and it requires a custom dns like ns1.mydomainname.com. Please note, I am very new to this. Hope to get a reply soon. Thank you

I think you have the concept of sub-domains under a parent domain confused with DNS nameservers.

If you register a domain, say big-oak-tree.com with a registry like GoDaddy. Once you build out the domain on your Linode you and easily create a sub-domain like store.big-oak-tree.com if you had an e-commerce store for it. (The alternative would be to create a sub-directory called "store" and the address would be big-oak-tree.com/store.

When you see "ns" in the beginning a domain name it usually refers back to a DNS nameserver (ns) which has zero to do with the above. It is a totally different subject.

If you tell us a bit more about what you are trying to accomplish maybe we can be of further help.
