Atlanta Data Center Update

Atlanta Sold Out-update

This post is being updated to reflect the most accurate timeline for the Atlanta Data Center upgrade. Updated: October 27, 2020

In September, we began work to upgrade our Atlanta data center. We are now targeting completion in early 2021, and you can stay up to date with the upgrade here, as we will be updating this post with additional information or changes (as necessary); for example, potential delays in hardware and installation due to COVID-19.

We’re excited to start these upgrades as the new data center facility allows us to better support our customers, add recent products to Atlanta, and provide additional compliance credentials:

Current Facility

  • 99 percent uptime SLA
  • Power and cooling – N+1 Power and cooling
  • Compliance – SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, SOC 3, HIPAA, PCI, OIX-2, GBLA, FISMA

Upgraded Facility:

  • 100 percent uptime DC SLA
  • Power – 2N redundancy
  • Cooling – N+1 redundancy
  • Compliance – SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR Privacy Shield, and SSAE-16/18

Current Customers
Resources deployed in Atlanta will remain supported while this upgrade takes place, though you may experience issues when creating or resizing Linodes. Please contact Support if you require assistance. Customers will be contacted via Linode Support tickets for any required next steps.

New and Prospective Customers
Updated (9/2/2020) : New deployments in Atlanta will be unavailable for new customers until the facility upgrade is complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

    this is AMAZING news !!!
DigitalOcean does not have a DC in the South of North America.
Vultr has Atlanta & Miami but they seem to always have very limited resources (specifically servers) available.
“add recent products to Atlanta” i hope this would mean “Block Storage” and upcoming Managed databases.
we typically see cloud providers competing with new products/services but putting the time and investment on the actual infrastructure gives me greater peace of mind, confidence and trust.
who will not love “100 percent uptime DC SLA” ?

Hi Randall! We wanted to follow up here to let you know that Block Storage will indeed be part of the Atlanta data center upgrades. Stay tuned and keep an eye out for more updates.

    Dear Friend,
I have some question about GDPR below as:
    1. What is the difference between EU GDPR and UK GDPR?
    2. Does the EU GDPR apply to the UK GDPR

    Looking forward to your reply

Hey Hansen – thanks for your question regarding GDPR. While we cannot offer legal advice or counseling, I think the following Community Questions post should help with some clarification. It includes links to some relevant resources that provide more information:

Linode GDPR and EU-US Privacy Shield Compliance
