Postfix/Dovecot outgoing emails are ok but no incoming

I have spent hours on this and checked every bit of the configuration files. I have also carefully compared my files against the tutorial here https://www.linode.com/docs/email/postf … -and-mysql">https://www.linode.com/docs/email/postfix/email-with-postfix-dovecot-and-mysql

I can send emails without a problem but incoming emails are stuck at a step. Interesting thing is the mails do not get bounced. Sender does not receive an error message. Mail somehow gets lost just before it is saved to Inbox. I am copying the mail log below (activated verbose logging). It looks like the problem is related to the missing dovecot-lmtp file.

Main attraction is the line towards the end (added space for visibility). I have also replaced personally identifiable information.

There appears to be a problem with your Dovecot configuration. Look at the Linode guide again and make sure you have followed the part about the service lmtp section correctly. Restart Dovecot so the new configuration is applied.

You will probably find that the mail is not lost, but is still in the Postfix queue waiting to be delivered.

That is correct. Mails is queued.

However, I have triple checked that my Dovecot config matches the Linode guide to the letter. Everything is in order but for some reason it is still not working.

Any other thoughts?

Can you verify whether the below code snippet is accurate? Description says uncomment port 0 but the snippet has otherwise.

Disable unencrypted IMAP and POP3 by setting the protocols’ ports to 0, as shown below. Ensure that the entries for port and ssl below the IMAPS and pop3s entries are uncommented:

I'm not very familiar with Dovecot, but can give you some hints. It appears that the port = 0 under inet_listener imap should not be commented as shown in the guide. However, your IMAP and POP settings shouldn't affect mail delivery by Postfix at all.

What is important for delivery is this:

When Dovecot is started, this should create a socket at /var/spool/postfix/private/dovecot-lmtp. You can see whether this socket exists by running this as root:

# ls -l /var/spool/postfix/private/dovecot-lmtp
srw------- 1 postfix postfix  0 Aug 19 19:41 /var/spool/postfix/private/dovecot-lmtp

The initial s means this is a socket, and the user and group need to both be postfix. If you get "no such file or directory" then Dovecot did not create the socket and you will need to look in its logs to see why.
