Updates available messages still showing after logout and login

I've recently upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 and am seeing a new (albeit minor) problem. After I apply updates and logout, then on the next login, the same messages are still shown, even though there are no updates required.

It takes another logout/login for the updates available messages to be hidden as expected. This never used to happen with 12.04.

I'm continuing to see this problem. The update info is always delayed by 1 log in/log out cycle compared with what it should be! Makes no sense.

The solution was to disable the caching of update messages by editing these two files:

/etc/pam.d/sshd

/etc/pam.d/login

Delete "noupdate" from this line:

session optional pam_motd.so motd=/run/motd.dynamic noupdate

I generally log in once a week and I now have available update messages that accurately show the current state rather than being stale by a week.
