Need help to send Mail : LAMP

I have set up LAMP and everything is working fine with my Codeignitor application set up.
But on sending mail via Gmail SMTP or normal PHP Mail function, I am getting error.
Please let me know or help me what options do I have. I don't want to reinstall everything, since I have set up already.

FYI, I don't have domain. I am currently running on IP address.

Error :

Message: fsockopen(): phpnetworkgetaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known

Message: fsockopen(): unable to connect to ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465 (phpnetworkgetaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known)
