Server IP inactive
hello,
i've got this weird problem i can't seem to fix. i'm hosting a website using apache2. whenever i reboot the linode machine and DO NOT OPEN CONSOLE i can access the website normally but after i open the console it just stops working. not only the website but the whole IP is inactive. i can't connect from putty or filezilla too. any ideas what may be causing that or how can i fix it?
thanks

Opening the Lish console or an SSH session shouldn't impact any services already running on your Linode, so it's definitely interesting that those interactions are causing the Linode to become unresponsive. The best place to start investigating would be your system logs, located in /var/log. You'll especially want to review /var/log/messages, /var/log/kern.log, and the logs for any services running on your Linode (including Apache). There should be more specific errors in those logs that can provide a good starting point for further troubleshooting.
Something else you'll want to check is whether the Apache process is actually starting when your Linode reboots. You may be seeing a cached version of your site when you visit it in your browser, while the web server itself is not running on your Linode. Similarly, it's also important to verify that the SSH process is running on your Linode, and that no necessary ports are being blocked by a firewall.
Since the issue is occurring after you reboot the Linode, I'd also suggest reviewing this additional Linode Community Questions post. This post relates to maintenance, but a lot of the issues it touches upon are really caused by the reboot that occurs as part of that maintenance, and will still be relevant to your troubleshooting. I'd especially suggest reviewing the sections on network troubleshooting since more than one service is not working correctly for your Linode.
