How can I check the amount of left over diskspace I have from the VPS from the dashboard on Linode?

You can’t report on disk space used by the file system from the Linode dashboard, it can’t access the internals of your Linode. It can only tell you how much of your disk space quota has actually been allocated.
You can however set up Longview, which requires a small agent to be installed on your Linode and reports back statistics such as disk space and CPU usage.
