Deployed Drupal Marketplace but can't continue configuration

Hello!
I just deployed a new Drupal node using the Marketplace deployment.
I then connected to the site via the IP address to try and finish the configuration but it's throwing an error when I specify the database info. My understanding is that I need to specify a db name, db user & db password which I do, but I keep getting this error below. Any insight is appreciated

Failed to connect to your database server. The server reports the following message: SQLSTATE[HY000] [1698] Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'
