How do I properly set up a A/AAAA Record to take me to my website without adding www in front?

I have successfully added an A/AAAA record that takes people to my site:

www.paardd4.nl

I have also attempted to add a record to take them to my site when they type

paardd4.nl

But, this takes me to my Ubuntu home page.

What I did: I clicked on 'Add a new record' I added my IP adress and left the hostname blank. This did not work because it directed towards the ubuntu home page. I then added a new record where I put '@' in the hostname and added the ip address. This also did not work. In Google, if you type 'Paard d4' - the first hit contains the IP address.

Where did I go wrong and how can I resolve the issue?

The DNS part is described here:

The rest is up to your web server. If you're using apache2, you have to have

ServerName mydomain.com

in your server or VirtualHost configuration(s) .
