I am unable to send email from app on linode server

Hi,

I have a laravel application on a linode server.

I have it setup to use gmail smtp to send emails. I am able to successfully send emails from my localhost app, but when deployed to linode server, it does not work. I am not getting any errors at the command line. The code is executing without error, but no email is being sent. I have checked spam on the recipient email account, but no email.

I am using ssl on port 587. Does this need to be enabled for my app?
