Server Security - Out the box?

Hopefully a quick one. I am using nodes to get some additional training on Linux outside of a PC host VM. On creation of the box, should I be setting up and locking down the server or is it sat behind the Linode firewalls?

Comments appreciated.

Creating a new Linode outside of the Linode Marketplace results in a blank disk Linux cloud VPS with only the basic Linux OS and no Cloud Firewall by default. Your server's security is therefore dependent initially on your root password. To ensure proper security measures are in place, I highly recommend following the Setting Up and Securing a Compute Instance guide.

If you frequently deploy new nodes, you may also find the "Secure Your Server" Marketplace app useful in streamlining your deployment process.
