How do I point my domain (registered with GoDaddy) to the Linode IP address?

I've successfully set up my saltcorn website on Linode and it it's currently in the RUNNING state. The A record I set up under https://cloud.linode.com/domains has the correct Linode IP address but when I ping the domain, it still points to GoDaddy…not the Linode IP address. Do I need something else beside an A record for my registered domain? In the meantime, how to access my saltcorn website on Linode using just the IP address? If I type my IP address in the browser URL, I just get:
404 Not Found
nginx/1.18.0 (Ubuntu)

There's a few things that could help here. First, you'll want to make sure you add NS records pointing to Linode's Name Servers both in our DNS Manager and with your registrar. This post talks more about how to do that with GoDaddy specifically.

You can also look at our guide to Troubleshooting DNS for other ideas like propagation times and TTL options.

You can also double check to make sure the configurations are right in our DNS Manager. The first time I used it, I missed the properties section of the guide. When I added my root domain to the A record, I typed out the domain rather than leaving it blank and it broke everything.

To check that specifically, you can go to the domain record in Cloud Manager. Under the A/AAAA record section, look in the Hostname column. For most use cases, there would be at least one entry that says www and one that is blank or says @. Your full domain shouldn't be listed in that hostname column.

Once you've figured out the DNS issue, I'd recommend checking out this post for more about resolving 404 errors.
