Kudos to Linode!

Guys, I just wanna say that Linode is by far the best VPS provider in the world! I originally tried GoDaddy, but was utterly irritated with their service after just 2 days. They didn't specify the version of Fedora they were using, and stupidly I chose Fedora. It turned out they were using Fedora 7! Like, what?

Okay, finally I went about upgrading to 12… but then I realised why they were using 7 - because they didn't bother to get their Simple Control Panel (which is not simple btw, because it tries to be too smart) to work with anything later than that.

So I "reprovision" my server, which is basically a refresh of the OS. This time, I chose CentOS. Bad move. I think I was reprovisioned on a different machine, and the ping replies came back at 350ms, up from 240ms previously. It was painful…utterly painful to configure the server through such lag.

And then I came across Linode from a Google search. I had seen Linode before, but chose GoDaddy because ignorantly, I thought - the more RAM the better, right? Well, after using Linode, I realise I don't actually need so much RAM. In addition, I especially like the concept of being able to choose the location of my virtual server. Being in Singapore, I chose CA, and the latency is about 198ms. That's pretty awesome! Also, you guys have the latest greatest builds which makes everything so much easier for me!

I'm really impressed by your service! Being an undergrad doing Computer Science, I had to tell all my peers and colleagues at school!! Thanks a bunch guys! Your fast servers will allow me to get back to work on some of my open source projects!

If I'm ever in the area, I'm buying all you guys a round!
