no ssh to new linode

Hello

just signed up but fell at the first hurdle - booted an Ubuntu 9.10 instance but

ssh root@173.255…

hangs with eventual timeout.

Using lish I see various error messages ending with:

Mount of root filesystem failed.

A maintenance shell will now be started.

Any ideas? should i open a support ticket?
