rsyslog and the lish console on Centos 6

Centos 6

I fired up iptables last night and have configured rsyslog to log iptables info to its own file and then drop further logging.

(This config works on other physical boxes as well as vmware vms that I run though they are RHEL6 and Scientific Linux 6 which

essentially is the same).

Its logging to the file, debug rsyslog shows thats the only action, however its still showing up on the lish console.

Is there something unique to linodes and the console? Other than they are virtual serial? I can't figure out how rsyslog

is still logging to it.

The actual rsyslog entry that works for me elsewhere is

:msg, startswith, "IN=" -/var/log/iptables

& ~

To answer my own question.. looks like dmesg level of console is different than it is in RHEL6 or SL6…

Here its showing 7… other boxes I have elsewhere are level 4.

Ran dmesg -n 4 and things got quieter on console.

Just need to tweak that to change every reboot as well.

Guess its more of a personal choice.
