DKIM signing for different domain

Hi All,

I have the following situation : I want to send mail that is displayed as from domain X.com but is actually sent from domain Y.com (they are on different IPs)

So an email header would be :

From : X.COM <noreply@Y.com>

Return-Path : <bounce@Y.com>

SPF is working however dkim show as "none".

If I set "from" to noreply@Y.com then dkim passes.

I tried adding a TXT record under domain Y.com via the DNS manager :

name._domainkey.x.com

To no avail.

Any advice strongly appreciated.

(Both domains are mine, I'm not spoofing emails !!)

Have you added a DKIM record for X.com?

Yes there is a dkim record on the server that X.com is on. Should I add one on the server that Y.com is on too ?

One for each can't hurt. Obviously it's not finding the one it wants.

but X.com is on a totally different server (not even a linode server).

Please provide more details regarding your suggestion.

I got it working by manually copying the public and private keys for X.com from the server that X.com is on to the server that Y.com is on.

For a cpanel based server these are in :

/var/cpanel/domain_keys/private

/var/cpanel/domain_keys/public
