Some of my Linode users have reported some Linode VPS sporting Intel Xeon Gold 6148 scalable cpus and AMD EPYC 7501 cpus being offered by Linode in some datacenters. Any planned formal announcement coming ? :)

Good eye! I see you've spied some of our new hardware. We're always working to improve our platform, but we don't have any formal announcements to make right now. Be sure to keep an eye on our blog in case we have any news. We have an exciting year ahead of us, and I think you'll be happy to see what we've been working on.

cheers @sjsmith looking forward to more platform improvements :)

I currently have a 2500MHz E5-2680v3 on my Nanode 1GB. How is single-core performance on the Xeon Gold or the Epyc compared to the E5?
My main workload is a nginx server with OpenSSL 1.1.1-pre8 supporting TLS 1.2 and 1.3, and running PHP 7.2 and MySQL 5.7.22.

Only way to know for sure is find a Linode using the newer Xeon Gold or EPYC cpus to test.
