Installing Windows and Connecting with RDP

Linode Staff

I was wondering if I can spin up a Linode running Windows that I can connect to via RDP, (Remote Desktop Protocol) or some similar piece of software. Is this possible, and if so, how would I go about it?

It is possible to install Windows on a Linode, though we will not be able to provide assistance for it since it is not officially supported.

The following guide should prove to be pretty useful for getting Windows up and running on your Linode, so feel free to give it a try!

As for connecting to your Linode with RDP, you will likely need to use software that is compatible with Linux, like rdesktop or Remmina.

Plans to officially support windows in the near future?

While we do not currently have plans to support Windows in the foreseeable future, I did want to mention that if you want to use RDC, the version of Windows you install must be Windows Pro (non-education version) or higher. Home versions of Windows do not support RDC connections.
