fail2ban not working after os upgrade

Just upgraded Ubuntu from 14.04.5 LTS to 16.04.5 LTS and fail2ban stopped working. There are a number of web site that have a solution, but none worked for me. Anyone else have this issue and are there any alternative to fail2ban?

Definitely gonna need more details than that.

How did it stop working? Is the service no longer running? What error messages are you seeing?

What solutions have you already tried that didn't work?
