When calculating how long a storage resize takes, is it based on storage capacity or storage usage?

Our company is upgrading its Linode and we need to know how long that will take.

The docs say to expect 1 minute of wait per 3 to 5 GB of storage.

Is that based on the storage used or on the storage capacity?

The number is based on the storage used, not the total capacity. You can query how much disk space is in use with the disk free command:

df -h
