Hello,

I see that you're having some issues running 'apt-get update' on an Ubuntu 16.10 'Yakkety Yak' system. Ubuntu has 2 types of releases: regular and LTS, or "Long-Term Support". A typical Ubuntu release, such as 16.10 comes with a support window of about 10 months, while the LTS versions (16.04, 18.04, etc) come with a support window of 5 years. If you check out Ubuntu's "Releases" wiki, you will see that this particular version of Ubuntu reached end-of-life status on July 20, 2017.

As luck would have it, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is actually set to release today (April 26, 2017) and it may be worth considering an upgrade at some point in the near future. It is important to make sure that your existing services/applications are compatible with the new version (this may require waiting for some updates to be released) and to make a backup of your server's data before upgrading, as it is sometimes necessary to rebuild your server when performing a full distribution upgrade.

I hope that this points you in the right direction!

Hello,

Just wanted to follow up and let you know - in case you haven't seen it yet - that Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is now available to install in the Linode Manager!

I have the same problem, can give me a detail instructions ? you only says "Linode Manager" but where is this !!?? I am offuscated and stressed by this topic.

Hey there,

You can install Ubuntu 18.04 the same way you can other operating systems onto a Linode, which is to click the "Deploy" button in the Linode's dashboard and choosing Ubuntu 18.04 from the list. You can read more about this in our Getting Started Guide. Hope this helps!
