Static ips

Im corious to know if i have to keep eth0 as dhcp or if i can assign it static using /etc/networks/interfaces so i dont have to worry about dhcpd process running..

You don't have to use dhcp - static IP setup is OK but: * Take care to use the correct IP - caker charges for his time if he has to sort out address conflicts;

  • You need to put the DNS addresses for your hosting centre in your resolver config file instead of having dhcp do it for you;

  • Don't forget to set up the netmask, gateway and broadcast address as well.
