Virtual Desktop

One of the really great things about linode is that they keep adding power to our accounts.

I can't remember exactly what I had when I signed up in 2004, but I think it was something like 64MB of RAM, 2G of disk space, and 50GB a month transfer. Now I have 300MB of RAM, and 10GB of disk space, and 200GB a month of transfer, for the same price, $20/month.

As a practical matter, this means that I have enough RAM to run a desktop.

I've got an Ubuntu system set up with a full desktop and all of the standard apps. I'm going in via FreeNX, which is a lot faster and more responsive than VNC. It feels almost local.

It's really cool. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it, but it's really cool.
