caker do you have any clue why dalnet has banned 64.5.53.* ?

No clue at all – still looking for a lookup page where I can get more info. But, it wasn't me :-)

Also, don't they require "identd" running, too? Is that the cause?

I ran into this once with a dedicated server from Rackshack. The problem had to do with my servers host ID which defaulted to "rackshack.net", which was a banned host on Dalnet. You may want to check with Planet for a similiar issue on your physical boxes. I was able to change my servers host ID to match my Domain - this was what ident sent to IRC.
