host5 performance has improved markedly since the upgrade
Chris has made many improvements to the host systems aimed at trying to mitigate these performance issues. Most recently he upgraded host5 to a new kernel which supports faster modes for UML. Was this change effective? See for yourself:
Notice that there are few spikes above the 1 - 2 load range, during this 9 day period. This is a really incredible improvement over previous spikes, which you can read about in the following threads:
Thank you very much Chris for your great work on improving Linode performance!~~
Hi all. I have at times tracked the performance of host5 over the course of weeks or months because I was experiencing bad performance early in the morning, which turned out to be due to everyone's "locatedb" cron jobs firing off at the same time.
I have noticed this spike on my linode also but I just had no idea why at around 4-4:30 PM (Philippine Time) the CPU load of the box I am on just goes up for a couple of minutes. The effect of this spike is unresponsiveness of my webserver. But after our host was also upgraded I no longer notice this spike.
