I tried signing up and now I’m being asked to verify my identity. What gives?

When I signed up for Linode, I was sent an email asking me to verify my identity before continuing? Why is this happening?

Depending on the info you provided during signup, we may require some verification from you before we can activate your account. Your account signup can be flagged for verification for a variety of different reasons. Most commonly this is from using a proxy, having hard to verify contact information, or a larger than normal distance from your signup location and the address you provided.

Our Support team is available to review your submissions through the secure temporary portal that is linked to in the email you received regarding identity verification. Any documents submitted to this portal will only be used for verification and will be removed after the process has been completed.

The info that is requested is as follows:

  • An image of the front and back of the payment card on file, which clearly shows the last 6 digits of the card number, expiration date, cardholder name, and bank logos.

(This is only the last 6 digits, we will never ask you to send an image of your full card number)

  • An image of the front and back of Government-issued photo ID that matches the name on the card.

Taking these images can be as simple as snapping a photo with your phone and uploading them to the secure portal. Make sure when taking this photo that your documents are clearly visible and legible. If we have trouble viewing an image, we may open a ticket with you asking you to submit new documents.

If you have any questions specific to your account during this process, feel free to open a ticket with us or email us at support@linode.com for more info.
