Thunderbird-Dovecot-Authentication timeout
I'll just throw this out there.
The final problem I have to combat with these new fangled everythings, is Thunderbird with my mail server.
It works. it does.. But I have to check my messages one at a time, slowly. Launching the bird throws authentication errors when it tries to blanket check them all at the same time. Check them one at a time, no problem. Check them too quickly and temporary authentication error.
so what we got here is some sort of maxuserIP issue which I've attempted to correct with no results.
I don't know where to go, I'm using Pop3, and I'm config'd out for the day.
Running a fresh install two weeks old (from time of writing) of ubuntu 21.10.
A quick suggestion from any good folks out there would be appreciated because BROING! BROING! BROING! BROING! BROING! BROING! lol

Check your POP3s configuration in dovecot… I'll bet the problem is there. You should try using IMAP… Development on POP really hasn't moved forward since 2003.
This is not to discount the fact that TBird may have bugs. This is as equally-likely as a bad dovecot configuration.

Thanks for the reply, good sir.
For the life of me I never could get IMAP to work for some reason.
I'll check over the pop conf's again, but I didn't notice anything else that might have been useful.
Old 18.04 config worked flawlessly, but 21x, well, it's been nothing but headaches lol. It probably is a thunderbird issue in the way it handles certificates, but I'm getting a bit exhausted so I figured fine time as any to ask for a fresh perspective.
I'll keep poking about as time allows.
Thanks again.

dovecot probably changed between the version used in 18.04 (dovecot-2.3.11.5-revN, N is some number) and 21.04 (2.3.13+dfsg1-1ubuntu1.1). I'd examine the dovecot versions in the two distro versions and go from there. The developers of dovecot (and postfix) are pretty anal about publishing docs about configuration changes. That being said, in the past, I've had to re-do parts of my dovecot conf between two point releases.

Try a different MUA to try to eliminate that possibility.

Tbird on 18.04: 78.14.0+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.2
Tbird on 21.04: 91.4.0+build2-0ubuntu0.21.04.1
If I were a betting man, I'd bet on Tbird as the source of your problem. Try a different MUA to try to eliminate that possibility. mailx is always a good option…simple, no GUI, etc.
